Halstead Baptist Church

A Very Warm Welcome to the Halstead Baptist Church Website. The church was established in 1678 and has been sharing the Gospel in word and acts of service to the Halstead area for over 350 years. The current building is the 3rd one on the current site. (Other historical sources suggest there was a previous building located elsewhere in the town thus making this the 4th building?). The current building, is the 3rd on this site, and we can say that for definite, as the history is engraved on a marble slab at the entrance to the sanctuary. This building was built in 1968.
The Christian church is not about buildings, though, it is about people who want to follow Christ. Those who receive Him as Saviour, and find in Him the forgiveness of sins through his death on the cross. It is about those who receive the power of the resurrection to live a new and changed life and therefore seek to follow Him as Lord. The building is just the place where we meet - it is not the church - we the people are the church, according to the Bible.
We, as local Christians, are building towards the future to enable HBC to ever better serve the community to which we believe God has called us. We are here to look up - as worshippers of God. We look inwards at ourselves, to align our lives with Christ and to become more like Him as we study the Scriptures and apply them to our lives and live as His disciples. We look outwards to our community, to share in word and deeds of the wonders of God and invite others to know Him. Yes, through Jesus Christ, a personal relationship with God is possible. He invites you to come and know Him.
Find out more about Christ and we His people us as you Navigate our website. In so doing, you may discover how God WILL speak to you at this moment in your life.
Our weekly services start at 10.30. We also have online services.

Rivers of Life Shop

prev next

The Rivers of Life shop, founded and owned by Halstead Baptist Church during the ministry of the present Minister, Revd Carter, is supported by Churches Together in Halstead. We are now open again. To fund the ROL project and people locally and wherever we can, we sell clothes, shoes, jewelry, artwork from local artists, DVDS, CDS and much, much more. We now also sell Personal Protective Products such as facemasks, wipes, hand gels and even Covid tests.

Apart from the PPE products and artwork, most of our stock we receive as donations from the public and are always grateful for them.

Part of the purpose of the ROL chat is for a place for people to come and have a chat, so we like to look at it as not only a shop for all people to come, but a place where those who wish can drop by and just have a chat with one of our volunteers. We do offer specialized counselling services for those who request it, and are always happy to pray with or for you, or anybody you request prayer for.

The name Rivers of Life is based upon the words of Jesus Christ, who said: 'Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, Rivers of Life will flow from within them.' John 7:38. We opened our High Street shop in October 2018. Working together with local Christians from the other churches in the town,  and some local residents who help out, as well as providing a friendly environment, we are providing friendship and assistance to help those in locally in need, or wherever they may be. If you just want somebody to talk to, come in and meet our friendly team.

Our current opening hours are:

WEDNESDAY 10.00am - 2.00pm

THURSDAY     9.00am - 5.00pm

FRIDAY            9.00am - 5.00pm

SATURDAY      9.00am - 5.00pm

We always need volunteers, and are looking at opening on Mondays and Tuesday. You don't have to be a church attendee to volunteer and we provide all the training necessary, which helps those looking for work as volunteer works always looks good on a CV and we can provide a reference to an employer.

We depend on donations to sell and need clothes, shoes, ornaments, toys, bric-a-brac and all sorts of household items. Please consider bringing your donations into us when you are having a clear out or want to find an item a new home.

Thank you.
